Wide selection of beaches in and around the town,
most of them having sun beds and umbrellas.
In Town
- Havania Beach - on the way to Elounda a municipal
beach with snack bar, great for snorkling.
- Ammoudi - popular sandy beach at the end of the
town’s promenade
- Kitroplatia - Right in the centre
of town with lots of tavernas surrounding beach
- Ammos - Opposite the marina - sandy beach with tavernas nearby
- E.O.T. Municipal Beach - near the marina and
Bousoulas apartments, Sit under trees on the grass
and enjoy the facilities including the only
mini-golf course in town, snack bar, snooker,
ping-pong.
- Gargadoros Beach - no facilities but water is
very clean and though stony beach sand on seafloor.
- Almiros - A 15 minute walk from
Bousoulas Apartments on the southern outskirts of
the town, Almiros is one of the most significant
seaside resorts in the area. A fresh water river
runs into the sea at one end of the beach surrounded
by eucalyptus trees, reeds and rushes - an ideal
place for bird watchers. Its long sandy beach is
especially suitable for children with the shallow
waters and with their own playground and snack bar
makes a good family day out.
Town Outskirts
- Ammoudara - 10 minutes drive from Agios Nikolaos
en route to Kalo Chorio is a small well-organized
sandy beach, with water climbing apparatus and other
water sports activities. Enjoy a cool drink or light
lunch in one of the adjacent tavernas.
- Kalo Chorio - the town is 20 minutes away and has
three main beaches - Karavostasi, Voulisma and
Golden Beach; the sandy beaches are great for a
day’s outing, at short distance are tavernas, cafes
and supermarkets. It is an ideal place for
sea-sports and beach fun.
